Chiropractic treatment for whiplash
A whiplash injury is the result of excessive or jerky acceleration and hyperextension of the head, as in a car accident. When this occurs, the intervertebral discs and soft tissues in the affected region are severely irritated.
The symptoms of whiplash are usually dizziness, headaches and neck pain.
To accelerate the healing process for a whiplash injury, it is advisable to have chiropractic treatment as soon as possible.
Following an injury, the human body is predisposed to healing itself to some degree. Chiropractic supports this healing process.
In the course the chiropractic treatment, vertebrae and joints are adjusted and brought back into position. The shoulder and neck area is mobilised and this creates the optimum start-out conditions for successful healing.
Note!
Dependent on the individual case of a whiplash injury, it may or may not be advisable to wear a neck brace, since in certain circumstances wearing a neck brace and the resultant stillness of the head, can actually support the misalignment of the vertebrae. This can then lead to consequential damage. Please therefore clarify the use of a neck brace with your chiropractor in advance.
