Chiropractic treatment for osteoarthritis
Chiropractic is fundamentally the most effective treatment for back and joint problems and their resultant consequences, such as Osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis is joint wear that has developed over decades and it is irreparable. Osteoarthritis itself is therefore not curable and the deterioration process cannot be reversed. However, the wear process can be slowed down by chiropractic treatment.
Chronic discomfort and pain caused by osteoarthritis can often be alleviated by chiropractic treatment and sometimes even completely obviated.
Osteoarthritis reduces joint mobility. Intervertebral discs and cartilage lose water and along with it their cushioning effect. Sensitive structures, such as nerves and the periosteum are irritated more easily, often resulting in inflammation and swelling of the joint which consequently leads to pain.
The most common causes of osteoarthritis are the misalignment and malpositioning of the joints. Malpositioning of the vertebrae and joints cause friction, thus triggering the wear process.
Chiropractic treatment can correct these misalignments, thereby improving the posture and mobility of the body – the wear process is then slowed down.
Just how much the wear process can be slowed down by chiropractic treatment, depends on how far the wear has already progressed. The more precisely, the body’s ‘building blocks’ still fit together, the better.
Complaints that surface suddenly in osteoarthritis patients can also be treated very effectively, as the acute cause of the complaint is a recent development and can therefore usually be corrected.
